Biblio.com Website Review & Ratings + Biblio Coupons

Biblio.com was established in 2003 to help independent booksellers compete with giant bookstore chains such as Amazon.com and Barnes&Noble. When they first started, they had 14 independent booksellers. Since then, their bookseller client base has grown to over 5,600. These booksellers sell books to millions of people worldwide.

The types of books they sell include:

Aspiring book collectors can learn the trade terminology by visiting Biblio’s Glossary page. They can also read informative articles on how to care for and repair their collectible books. Customers who own an independent bookstore (or would like to start one) can apply to become a bookseller on Biblio.com. Students can also sell their used textbooks on this site.

Once a bookseller establishes his account and uploads his inventory, he can feature his books on any sites or programs that Biblio offers. Once a book is sold, Biblio takes a commission based on the billing option that the bookseller has chosen.
Customers may shop for books directly on the Biblio.com site, enjoying free shipping and exclusive specials on select books. They may also buy gift certificates for their friends and family. Biblio.com also offers a 30-day guarantee, as well as the ability to track orders.

Biblio: What makes it different?
  • K-12 and Institutional Purchasing: Schools, libraries, and institutions can save more than 90% off older editions of textbooks. They can also buy used copies of current editions for a discount. By signing up for Biblio.com’s free newsletter, they can save even more with coupons. To take advantage of this feature, teachers must request approval for a PO. Once the approval is granted, they can select and order their books.
  • International Edition Textbooks: Students can save up to 95% when they buy the International Edition textbooks. These textbooks may not have the supplementary materials, such as accompanying CD ROMs. They may also have soft covers and contain black and white illustrations instead of color.
  • Make An Offer: Customers can get a great deal on collectible books that have the Make An Offer button. Once the customer submits the offer form, the bookseller has the option of accepting, declining, or making a counter offer.
Biblio vs. primary competitors (sites similar to Biblio)

Amazon.com relies on independent merchants to sell used books and textbooks to its customers. Customers give the merchants a star rating between one and five. These ratings are then averaged into a percentage grade. Merchants must post the condition of their books so that the customer will know what they are buying. Customers may sign up for the Merchant Program to sell a variety of products, including books and textbooks.

Biblio.com does not offer the merchant rating feature. Descriptions of the books’ conditions are inconsistent. Some sellers will post descriptions of creases, stains, or highlights. Others will post a vague description such as “Very Good.” Unlike Amazon, Biblio customers can filter their searches to include a variety of attributes, conditions, and locations.

AbeBooks.com has specialized in helping customers find used, out-of-print, signed, and antiquary books since 1995. They also sell college textbooks. AbeBooks also has a merchant rating feature. Customers may filter their searches by condition, binding, collectible attributes, free shipping, and location. Free shipping is available for many books at AbeBooks.com. Book collectors can ask questions in the Community Forum. AbeBooks also has a BookSleuth, GiftSleuth, and Bookseller forum.

Biblio.com also offers free shipping for many of their books, including college textbooks. Their book search feature is comparable to AbeBooks.com's. They offer one forum, where customers can discuss a variety of topics concerning books.

Half.com sells textbooks, along with new, used, and bargain books. Customers can rent textbooks and books for up to 125 days. Half.com also has a merchant rating feature. When a customer clicks on a book title, he is given a list of merchants, categorized by the book’s condition. The customer sees the price, the merchant’s rating, a description of the book or the merchant’s advertisement (ex. Free shipping), and the merchant’s location.

Biblio.com does not offer the book renting feature. If customers want to see the condition of a book before they buy it, they will have to click on the Read More link at the bottom of the Book Description section of the listing.
